All four candidates from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh have secured their positions in the Rajya Sabha without facing any opposition. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) candidates were declared winners after the nomination withdrawal period ended. The elections for these four Rajya Sabha seats were initially set for June 18.
The vacancies in the Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha arose due to the retirement of previous members from various parties. Sana Sathish Babu, a TDP member, secured his second term in the Upper House. Bhashyam Ramakrishna, an educationalist and entrepreneur, and Chintakayala Vijay, the son of Andhra Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu, also emerged victorious. Additionally, Lingamaneni Ramesh’s election marks Jana Sena’s debut in the Rajya Sabha.
The NDA’s success in the Rajya Sabha polls was attributed to its significant majority in the state Assembly. The TDP, along with its allies Jana Sena and BJP, collectively hold a substantial number of seats in the 175-member House. In contrast, the YSR Congress Party has a much smaller representation with only 11 seats.
