Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are arriving in Guwahati for the swearing-in ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma as Assam’s Chief Minister for a second term. The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Khanapara around 11:40 a.m. Four ministers, including Sarma, will be sworn in, with representation from BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
This marks Sarma’s second term as Chief Minister and the third consecutive BJP-led government in Assam. Notable figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are expected to attend the event. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and various Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states will also be present.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta expressed optimism for Assam’s progress under Modi and Sarma’s leadership. Tight security measures have been implemented for the ceremony. The NDA, comprising BJP, AGP, and BPF, achieved a significant victory in the recent Assembly elections, securing 102 out of 126 seats.
