Speaking at the Wanda Diamond League media event in Doha, Chopra emphasized that the busy athletics calendar and the high level of talent at the Commonwealth Games make it a challenging season for Indian athletes. Despite the reduced mental pressure, physically, Chopra remains focused on delivering top performances with both the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games ahead.
The Commonwealth Games javelin event is anticipated to feature a strong field comparable to the Olympics and World Championships. Chopra highlighted the competition’s depth, mentioning top throwers like Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage from Sri Lanka, and Anderson Peters from Grenada. He emphasized that all contenders consistently achieve throws over 90 meters, making the Commonwealth Games a highly competitive platform.
Chopra also discussed the technical complexities of competing in Doha, where wind conditions significantly impact performances. While acknowledging the advantage of favorable winds, he stressed the importance of maintaining the correct release angle for optimal throws.
