The Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra is making a comeback to the Commonwealth Games 2026 after missing the previous edition in 2022. Neeraj, who clinched the title at Gold Coast 2018, had to skip Birmingham 2022 due to an injury.
Neeraj expressed that he doesn’t have a set target in mind for the upcoming competition. His main focus is to give his best effort and perform at his peak on the day of the event, adapting to the prevailing conditions. He emphasized the importance of representing his country and pledged to give his all for India.
Having faced a lower back issue before the World Athletics Championships last year, where he secured the eighth position, Neeraj has been working on his weaknesses. After participating in the Doha Diamond League in June this year and finishing fourth with a throw of 85.69m, he has addressed his shortcomings and arrived in Glasgow in good shape.
Neeraj, the reigning Olympic and world champion, mentioned that while he aims to increase his throwing distance, his primary focus is on maintaining consistency. He acknowledged the challenge of competing against top athletes and highlighted the significance of gradual improvement in such high-level competitions.
The men’s javelin qualifying round is set for July 30 at the Scotstoun Stadium, with the final taking place the next day. Neeraj faces tough competition from renowned javelin throwers like Arshad Nadeem, Rumesh Pathirage, Anderson Peters, and Keshorn Walcott.
