A tragic incident occurred in Hyderabad on June 20 as a NEET aspirant, Sheikh Sana, took her own life a day before the NEET (UG) re-examination. Sana, aged 19, was found deceased at her residence in Miyapur Police Station’s jurisdiction. She had been diligently preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) while residing with her two sisters in an apartment.
Sana’s father works in Kuwait, and her mother had recently traveled to Proddatur in Andhra Pradesh, leaving her under academic stress and family expectations. The young student, who had faced previous setbacks, was believed to have succumbed to the pressure. She left a note in English before hanging herself, expressing that no one else was accountable for her actions.
Having previously attempted the exam without success, Sana had undergone extensive coaching and reappeared for the test held the previous month. Tragically, she was gearing up for a re-examination scheduled for June 21. Her sudden demise has left her younger sisters under the care of their aunt, with the police investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
The tragic incident involving Sana adds to a series of suicides among NEET aspirants following the cancellation of the May 3 test due to alleged question paper leaks. Sana’s death marks the first reported suicide of a NEET aspirant from Telangana, shedding light on the immense pressure faced by students preparing for competitive exams.
