Hyderabad, Aug 11 (IANS) Hyderabad Police on Tuesday detained Nepal-based gang member Sunil Bahadur Aauji alias Sunil Pariyar under the Preventive Detention Act.

He is an accused in a sensational murder relating to the brutal killing of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Ray Vinay Ranjan, within the limits of Jubilee Hills Police Station

The Hyderabad Police have detained 29-year-old Sunil Bahadur Aauji, a car driver and resident of Navi Mumbai. He is a native of Timilsain village, Achham district, Nepal.

The detention order was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, on Monday. Accordingly, he was detained under Section 3(2) of the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986.

Sunil Bahadur came to adverse notice in connection with a serious murder-for-gain case registered in Jubilee Hills Police Station, under Sections 103(1), 309(2) and 317(3) of the BNS.

He, along with his associates, is alleged to have hatched a criminal conspiracy, trespassed into the residence of Tanuja Ranjan (62), restrained and suffocated her to death, and decamped with gold ornaments and other valuables.

The accused was arrested on May 22 and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

He is also an accused in two criminal cases registered in Gujarat and Maharashtra in 2024.

According to police, the detention under the PD Act has been effected in view of the nature and gravity of the alleged offences and the material placed before the competent authority in accordance with law.

Accordingly, he was detained on Tuesday under the PD Act and lodged as per procedure.

The Hyderabad city police reiterate that stringent legal action will be taken against habitual and organised offenders whose activities pose a threat to public order and the safety and security of citizens.

Meanwhile, Falaknuma Police intensified surveillance and stringent enforcement against persons indulging in anti-social activities, public nuisance, suspicious movements, and acts disturbing public peace

ACP Falaknuma Division, M. A. Javeed, said that as part of these crime prevention and enforcement efforts, seven persons were apprehended in separate cases.

They were produced before the IX Special Judicial Magistrate, who convicted the accused in their respective cases and awarded simple imprisonment ranging from three days to eight days.
