Nepal experienced a surge in Indian tourist arrivals by air in June, with 41,809 Indian visitors out of a total of 91,363 foreign tourists. This marked the highest number of Indian tourist arrivals ever recorded in Nepal, surpassing the previous record set in May.
Indian tourists have been increasingly choosing Nepal as a travel destination due to relatively cheaper airfares compared to long-haul routes affected by rising fuel prices. Factors such as school holidays in India and high summer temperatures have also contributed to the rise in Indian visitors to Nepal.
The tourism sector in Nepal has been benefiting from the growth in the Asian market, particularly South Asia, with India leading the way. In June, South Asian visitors accounted for over half of the total foreign arrivals in Nepal, highlighting the region’s significance as a key tourism source for the country.
The Nepal Tourism Board attributes the steady increase in tourist arrivals to improved international air connectivity, effective tourism promotion campaigns, marketing strategies in major source markets, and Nepal’s reputation as a safe and appealing destination. Efforts are underway to enhance promotional activities in key markets like India, China, the United States, and Europe to capitalize on the upcoming tourism season.
