Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Shisir Khanal, is scheduled to visit India from June 5 to 7 at the invitation of India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar. This visit marks Khanal’s first official trip to India since the current government took office in March. The purpose of the visit is to discuss various matters of mutual interest, including trade, investment, connectivity, energy, and people-to-people ties.
During the visit, formal talks are planned between Minister Khanal and EAM Jaishankar in New Delhi. The discussions aim to enhance cooperation across key areas and strengthen the longstanding ties between Nepal and India. The visit is part of the regular exchange of high-level engagements between the two neighboring countries.
Minister Khanal is expected to return to Kathmandu on June 7 after the bilateral talks on June 6. The focus of the discussions will include enhancing connectivity between the two nations, particularly in areas such as railway, road, air, and people-to-people connections. The visit is seen as a step towards further consolidating the multifaceted relationship between Nepal and India.
After the recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSP President Lamichhane, discussions emphasized the potential for partnership based on shared civilizational bonds and connectivity. The visit aims to expedite processes on various issues and explore opportunities for shared prosperity between Nepal and India.
