Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. Shah praised Modi’s achievement as a significant milestone and wished him good health and continued progress for India. Emphasizing the importance of bilateral relations, Shah expressed Nepal’s commitment to strengthening ties with India.
Prime Minister Modi recently surpassed Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure to become India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. Modi took office on May 26, 2014, and has now served for 4,399 days, exceeding Nehru’s record. Nehru, who served from 1952 to 1964, held the previous record with a tenure of 4,398 days.
Modi’s uninterrupted tenure of over 12 years has made him the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in Indian history. Despite this achievement, he remains the second-longest-serving Prime Minister overall, following Nehru. Under Modi’s leadership, India has seen significant economic growth and expanded its global influence through various initiatives.
The close ties between Nepal and India encompass historical, cultural, economic, and people-to-people connections. Both countries collaborate extensively in trade, connectivity, energy, education, and infrastructure projects. Nepal’s congratulatory message to Modi coincides with efforts to enhance cooperation between Kathmandu and New Delhi, including recent discussions and agreements on bilateral cooperation.
