Two new champions emerged at the 18th edition of the World 10K in Bengaluru. Rodrigue Kwizera from Burundi claimed victory in the men’s race, setting a new event record with a time of 27:31. In the women’s category, Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru secured first place with a time of 30:45.
Kwizera, who missed the top spot three years ago, fulfilled his promise by winning the race with determination. He outpaced his competitors and finished about 7 seconds faster than the previous record. Meanwhile, Niyonkuru led the women’s race from the front, maintaining her position throughout the event.
In the Indian performances, Harmanjot Singh and Sanjivani Jadhav stood out by securing top honors in their respective categories. Harmanjot clocked 29:13 to emerge as the fastest Indian runner, narrowly missing the event record. Sanjivani continued her winning streak, claiming her third consecutive title at the event.
Shailesh Kushwaha and Deepak Bhatt completed the men’s podium, finishing after Harmanjot. In the women’s race, Soniya secured the second position, reflecting an improvement in her performance compared to the previous year. The athletes expressed their strategies and learnings from the race, highlighting the competitive spirit at the World 10K.
