Chief of Defence Staff Gen N.S. Raja Subramani, who recently assumed office, emphasized his dedication to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He succeeded General Anil Chauhan, who retired on May 30. Gen Subramani paid respects at the National War Memorial before receiving a Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns.
Gen Subramani expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the Armed Forces by the nation. He highlighted the importance of unity among the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Ministry of Defence, and strategic institutions to bolster the country’s security. The new CDS reiterated the commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of JAI: Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation.
The focus under Gen Subramani’s leadership will be on transforming the armed forces through organizational reforms to enhance jointness, synergy, and integration. Atmanirbharta, or self-reliance, will play a crucial role in national security, with a push for indigenous weapon development and integration. Innovation will be key to enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces, fostering collaboration with industry, academia, startups, and the research ecosystem.
Gen Subramani praised the professionalism and operational decisiveness of the Armed Forces in safeguarding national interests. He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, General Bipin Rawat and General Anil Chauhan, and emphasized the welfare and training of soldiers, sailors, and air warriors as top priorities. The new CDS assured continued dedication, courage, and professionalism in serving the nation.
