A new cab-hailing app called Bharat Taxi, supported by the Ministry of Cooperation, has rapidly gained traction in India shortly after its launch, posing strong competition to Ola and Uber. The app has witnessed a surge in registrations, with approximately 40,000 to 45,000 new users signing up daily over the last two days. Bharat Taxi has already amassed over four lakh registered customers, ranking ninth on Google Play Store and thirteenth on Apple’s App Store.
The Ministry of Cooperation, in a social media post, highlighted Bharat Taxi’s success as part of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” vision led by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. Positioned as a cooperative-based alternative to existing cab aggregators, Bharat Taxi focuses on transparency, driver-friendliness, and safety, with police-verified drivers for secure travel. The app, available on Android and iOS, is making its mark in India’s competitive ride-hailing market.
Bharat Taxi’s user-friendly interface offers easy city ride bookings and additional services like metro ticket bookings and cab rentals for up to 12 hours. Safety features, such as police calling options and emergency alerts, are prominently featured. While the app competes with established players, its performance and pricing will be tested as user adoption increases. Although initial feedback is positive, some users note occasional inconsistencies in fares and a need for further refinement in the app’s functionality.
The app’s driver-first approach promises not to charge any commission from drivers, allowing them to retain the full fare. Future plans include setting up dedicated pickup and drop zones at airports and expanding to other transport hubs. Bharat Taxi’s journey signifies a growing presence in the Indian market, emphasizing user and driver satisfaction in the evolving landscape of ride-hailing services.
