The recently implemented Income Tax Act 2025 in India has been praised by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (IT & TP) Nirupama Kotru for making the tax system more straightforward and user-friendly. Kotru highlighted that the reforms aim to assist ordinary citizens in filing returns independently and reducing reliance on tax professionals for basic compliance.
She emphasized that the new tax regulations maintain India’s reputation for having globally low tax rates and a taxpayer-friendly approach. The objective behind the Income Tax Act 2025 and Income Tax Rules 2026 is to simplify tax compliance, making it easier for regular taxpayers to comprehend and fulfill their tax obligations without confusion.
Kotru mentioned that the government has introduced various measures such as simplified terminology, fewer sections, multilingual brochures, and online resources like the ‘Aaykar Sathi’ chatbot to aid taxpayers in resolving queries conveniently from their homes. She expressed confidence that these initiatives will enhance people’s understanding of tax processes and facilitate smoother tax filing experiences.
The Chief Commissioner stressed that despite the simplification efforts, there is a common perception among individuals that the tax system is complex, leading some to believe they require professional assistance for filing returns. The government’s broader objective is to encourage more people to participate in the tax system by simplifying language and procedures in the new tax legislation.
