Thirteen ministers are set to take the oath with Chief Minister-designate D.K. Shivakumar in the new Karnataka government on Wednesday. Former Home Minister G. Parameshwara, a prominent Dalit leader, will be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister as per the official communication to the Governor’s office.
Among the key additions in the initial cabinet formation are Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of the outgoing Chief Minister, and former Speaker U.T. Khader. However, former Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan, a close associate of Siddaramaiah, has not been included in the ministerial list, seen as a setback amidst controversy over alleged anti-party activities.
The first phase of cabinet induction includes former ministers like K.H. Muniyappa, K.J. George, M.B. Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, and Krishna Byre Gowda. The swearing-in ceremony marks the start of the new government, with further expansions anticipated in the near future.
Former MPs and MLAs from diverse communities like Dalit, Lingayat, and Vokkaliga are among those set to be sworn in, showcasing a mix of experience and representation in the new cabinet.
