A police station for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to be established in West Bengal following approval at a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The new station will address the increasing workload of the NIA in the state due to a rise in cases.
The eastern regional headquarters of the NIA is currently based in Salt Lake on the outskirts of Kolkata, managing all agency operations. However, with the surge in cases in West Bengal, the state cabinet has approved the proposal for a separate NIA police station.
Construction of the new police station is expected to begin soon after completing necessary government formalities. The exact location of the station is yet to be disclosed, with details to be announced shortly.
The NIA is actively investigating various cases in West Bengal, including those from the previous government’s tenure, leading to a rise in workload. The decision to establish the new police station was made considering these factors during the cabinet meeting.
Several other proposals were also approved during the state cabinet meeting, including the allocation of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for border security measures near Bangladesh in North Bengal.
