Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary launched a new weekly train service between Chhapra Junction railway station and Anand Vihar Terminal. Additionally, two more train services connecting Maul to Delhi and Zahirghat to Varanasi were virtually flagged off by the Railway Minister during the event. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Saran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Maharajganj MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal, along with other leaders.
Vaishnaw, addressing the attendees, disclosed plans for Bihar to receive over 200 new trains in the next seven to eight years as part of a significant railway expansion initiative. He highlighted the substantial progress in railway infrastructure within the state, with ongoing projects valued at more than Rs 1.15 lakh crore. The Railway Minister also announced the approval of the Delhi–Varanasi–Patna bullet train corridor, which is expected to reduce travel time between Patna and Delhi to just 4 hours and 41 minutes upon completion.
Bihar’s railway budget has notably increased under the leadership of Narendra Modi, enabling rapid modernization and expansion of rail infrastructure across the state, as mentioned by Vaishnaw. The minister emphasized Bihar’s emerging role in railway manufacturing, citing the export of locomotives from the Marhaura Diesel Locomotive Factory to Guinea. Notably, a significant export agreement for 140 locomotives was finalized following a visit by Guinean ministers to the Marhaura facility in May 2025, marking a substantial step in Bihar’s railway manufacturing sector.
Chief Minister Choudhary expressed Bihar’s transition towards a new identity in information technology, industry, and infrastructure, highlighting the development of two airports in Chhapra and plans for establishing 10 Green Cities across the state. MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy lauded the new Chhapra–Delhi train service as a response to a long-standing demand in the region, enhancing travel convenience for residents of Saran and neighboring districts by providing direct rail connectivity to Delhi.
