Within a day of assuming office, the new Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has restructured the Chief Minister’s Office at the state secretariat. Sixteen bureaucrats from the previous administration, including Santanu Mukhopadhya, a close aide of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have been replaced. Additionally, 46 principal secretaries from the previous cabinet have been temporarily reassigned.
Following the oath ceremony, Subrata Gupta, a retired IAS officer known for his role as an Election Commission special poll observer, has been appointed as an advisor to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Subrata Bala, an IAS officer, has been named the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, with previous experience as an Additional District Magistrate.
In a separate move, Kolkata Police have transferred 93 officers, including sub-inspectors and deputy commissioners, to various locations outside the city. Many of these officers were associated with the Trinamool Congress-affiliated Police Welfare Association, with postings in districts across North Bengal, South 24 Parganas, and tribal-dominated areas in the Western Sector of West Bengal.
