New Zealand’s six major cricket associations have revealed the initial round of men’s contracts for the upcoming 2026/27 domestic season. Notably, experienced all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has secured a full-time contract with Auckland after previously being on a casual playing arrangement. Neesham, who brings a wealth of experience, recently captained New Zealand in T20Is.
Adithya Ashok has also made a return to Auckland’s contract list alongside Neesham. Wellington has bolstered its squad by signing fast bowler Henry Shipley from Canterbury, who brings valuable experience from domestic cricket and international appearances in ODIs and T20Is. Additionally, Wellington has welcomed Muhammad Abbas, who was part of the BLACKCAPS central contract list last season.
Northern Districts sees the return of top-order batter Nick Kelly, who rejoins after leading Wellington for the past four seasons. Central Districts has acquired all-rounder Jake Gibson, known for his skills in limited-overs and red-ball cricket, from Otago. Several players have also reclaimed spots on domestic contract lists following recent international recognition.
Emerging talents have been recognized with maiden domestic contracts, with players like Luke Watson impressing Auckland during his debut season. Otago has focused on youth by awarding first contracts to Tom Jones and Thomas O’Connor, while Canterbury has added Lachie Harper to their contracted group after a promising debut season.
The major associations have named up to 15 contracted players initially, with a subsequent two-week transfer window for uncontracted cricketers to explore other opportunities. The final 16-player squads for the 2026/27 domestic season will be confirmed after this transfer period. Contracted players will play a crucial role in the Plunket Shield, Ford Trophy, and Super Smash competitions.
