New Zealand cricketer Doug Bracewell, aged 35, has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. Bracewell, known for his impressive career, played 28 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 20 T20Is between 2011 and 2023. He leaves the sport with a total of 74 Test wickets, with a memorable performance against Australia in Hobart where he took 6-40 in the final innings.
Bracewell’s retirement marks the last time New Zealand triumphed over Australia on Australian soil at the Test level. Additionally, he secured 46 wickets in white-ball cricket for New Zealand. His final international appearance was in a Test match against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 2023, after which a rib injury led to his retirement from domestic cricket with Central Districts in New Zealand.
Acknowledging his cricket journey, Bracewell expressed gratitude for the opportunities to represent his country and Central Districts. He highlighted the privilege of playing at the first-class and international levels, thanking his teammates, coaches, and management for their support throughout his career. Bracewell, known for his all-round skills, retires as one of New Zealand’s modern elite all-rounders with 4,000 runs and 400 career wickets, including a significant contribution to Central Districts’ history.
Apart from his domestic success, Bracewell also played in England’s County Cricket for Essex and Northamptonshire. His cricketing journey extended to the IPL, where he represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2012, Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2024, and Central Stags in the Global Super League earlier this year.
