New Zealand midfielder Matt Garbett will miss the FIFA World Cup 2026 due to a hamstring injury sustained during training. The injury occurred before New Zealand’s opening match against Iran at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The All Whites expressed their disappointment over Garbett’s absence from the tournament and wished him a speedy recovery. In his place, Logan Rogerson has been included in the 26-man squad. Garbett, aged 24, has represented New Zealand in 38 games and scored five goals.
Head coach Darren Bazeley mentioned that Garbett had a hamstring issue and was being monitored by the medical team. Despite his absence, the team is hopeful for his return to the field soon. New Zealand, participating in their third FIFA World Cup, is aiming to make an impact in North America after previous appearances in 1982 and 2010.
