Spin-bowling all-rounders Flora Devonshire, Nensi Patel, and batters Emma McLeod and Izzy Sharp have been selected for the New Zealand Women’s ODI squad for the upcoming series in England and Wales starting on May 10. This will be their first senior overseas tour for New Zealand after recent victories against Zimbabwe and South Africa at home.
Flora Devonshire, who missed out on playing in the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup due to a finger injury, made her ODI debut in March against South Africa. Melie Kerr, the full-time captain, will lead the 15-member squad, including senior players Suzie Bates, Maddy Green, and Brooke Halliday.
Suzie Bates, with a remarkable 181-match ODI career, will retire from international cricket after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Head coach Ben Sawyer expressed confidence in the squad’s balance, highlighting the mix of young talent like Emma, Izzy, Nensi, and Flora with experienced players.
The team is set to face England in a challenging series, with a warm-up match against ECB development XI scheduled for May 6. The squad for the T20 leg of the series and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be announced on April 29.
