Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, the recently appointed Governor of Bihar, has reached Patna ahead of his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for March 14 at Lok Bhavan. The oath of office will be administered by the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Industry Minister Dilip Jaiswal, and other NDA government leaders at Patna Airport.
Syed Ata Hasnain is renowned for his illustrious career and strategic leadership in the Indian Army spanning almost four decades. Notably, he served as the commander of the Chinar Corps (XV Corps) in Srinagar from 2012 to 2014, leading significant counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. During his tenure, he focused on a “hearts and minds” strategy to foster trust between security forces and the local populace.
Even post his military service, Hasnain remained actively engaged in national policy and security affairs. He was a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and held the Chancellor position at the University of Kashmir. The previous Governor of Bihar, Arif Mohammad Khan, assumed office on December 24, 2024, marking the first Muslim community Governor in nearly 26 years. With Syed Ata Hasnain’s appointment, Bihar once again has a Governor from the Muslim community, signifying an important administrative and strategic move.
