James P.K. Sangma, the newly elected Rajya Sabha member from Meghalaya, emphasized the importance of stringent actions to prevent illegal infiltration, highlighting the protection of India’s territorial integrity as a key national priority. Addressing concerns about reported infiltration incidents along the India-Bangladesh border, Sangma called for continuous vigilance and a strong response from border security authorities. He specifically mentioned the recent tensions between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district following an incident involving an alleged Bangladeshi national.
Sangma expressed serious concerns about illegal infiltration, emphasizing that safeguarding territorial integrity should always be a top priority. He acknowledged the efforts of agencies responsible for border security in monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to tackle emerging challenges. The National People’s Party (NPP) leader affirmed his full support for the Government of India’s actions on national security and border management matters.
As a Member of Parliament, Sangma declared his readiness to undertake any responsibilities entrusted to him in protecting the nation’s interests. Stressing the collective responsibility of ensuring robust border protection mechanisms, he highlighted the crucial role of securing the country’s boundaries in maintaining national security. These statements followed Sangma’s uncontested election to the Rajya Sabha from Meghalaya, succeeding the outgoing member Dr. Wanweiroy Kharlukhi.
