Newly inducted BJP leader Pradyut Bordoloi met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The meeting signifies a significant political move ahead of the upcoming elections in Assam, highlighting the BJP’s focus on strengthening its position by bringing in key political figures. Sources reveal that during the meeting, Home Minister Shah encouraged Bordoloi to contest the Assembly polls, with Union Minister Piyush Goyal also present.
Pradyut Bordoloi, after joining the BJP, expressed admiration for Assam CM Sarma and dissatisfaction with the Congress. Bordoloi cited his respect for Sarma’s governance and work ethic as the driving factors behind his decision. He mentioned feeling undervalued within the Congress, leading to mental distress and ultimately his resignation from the party. Bordoloi emphasized that his move to the BJP was motivated by a desire to work meaningfully while preserving Assamese identity and dignity.
The shift in political allegiance by Pradyut Bordoloi is seen as a setback for the Congress in Assam, especially amid ongoing political realignments before the elections. His move is expected to strengthen the BJP’s organizational presence in the state, with the potential for more opposition figures to follow suit. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed Bordoloi into the BJP, criticizing the Congress for lacking space for “self-respecting individuals” and highlighting the changing political landscape in Assam.
