National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a subsidiary of NHAI, has instructed its field offices to advise lessees to prioritize establishing vehicle repair and puncture repair facilities promptly. This initiative aims to offer timely mechanical assistance to highway users, decrease vehicle downtime, and improve the overall travel experience on India’s expanding highway network.
Officials have highlighted the current demand for more vehicle repair and puncture repair services on various National Highways and Expressways. The provision of such facilities is anticipated to assist motorists and freight operators in managing vehicle breakdowns and emergencies more effectively, thereby reducing delays, inconvenience, and potential safety hazards.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways emphasized the necessity for an increased number of vehicle and puncture repair services on multiple National Highways and Expressways. This enhancement is envisioned to enable highway users to access timely mechanical support during breakdowns and emergencies, thereby averting inconvenience, delays, and safety issues.
NHLML is actively working on establishing a network of modern Wayside Amenities nationwide through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model on a long-term lease basis. The existing lease agreements with concessionaires and lessees already allow for the development of additional facilities, including vehicle repair shops and puncture repair services, alongside mandatory amenities.
The Wayside Amenities are being designed as integrated service hubs to cater to the requirements of commuters and commercial vehicle operators traveling on National Highways and Expressways. Officials believe that expanding repair and maintenance facilities at these locations will promote seamless mobility and enhance roadside assistance services.
NHAI’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to create user-centric and safe highway corridors while supporting economic activities and logistics operations throughout the country. By enhancing access to essential services along highways, the authority aims to provide a more convenient and reliable travel experience for both passenger and freight traffic.
