The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated action after a media report revealed a distressing incident involving a 15-year-old boy from Bihar’s Kishanganj district. The boy, who got separated from his father at Haryana’s Bahadurgarh Railway Station, endured eight months of bonded labour. During this period, he lost his left arm at the elbow before finally returning home.
The NHRC, alarmed by the reported violations of human rights, has issued notices to key officials in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. It has demanded a comprehensive response within two weeks regarding the victim’s situation, compensation, and necessary documentation under the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
The media report detailed how the boy, after missing his train, was coerced into bonded labour in Greater Noida. He was subjected to grueling work routines, physical abuse, and eventually lost his arm in a horrific accident. Despite these hardships, he managed to escape and was eventually rescued by government authorities.
