The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the inquiry into the discovery of 79 crude bombs and other incriminating materials in West Bengal. The case, which involves endangering human life and property, was previously under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police. The NIA has officially initiated its investigation following the re-registration of the case.
The recovery of a significant number of crude bombs by the Kolkata Police in the Bhangar area has raised concerns about potential threats to public safety. The materials were seized during a police operation prompted by suspicions of the storage of explosive substances. The NIA, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has now taken charge of the case for further investigation.
Sources have revealed that the NIA will delve into the circumstances surrounding the storage of the crude bombs and explore all angles of the case, including the underlying motives behind hoarding such dangerous materials. The focus of the investigation will be on identifying the individuals responsible for storing the explosives and determining if there is a broader conspiracy associated with the recovery.
In a separate incident, the NIA has apprehended a key suspect in a West Bengal bomb explosion case that resulted in one fatality and left three others severely injured earlier this year. Ahidul Islam Molla, a resident of Bijoyganj Bazar in South 24 Parganas district, was taken into custody following an extensive examination of his involvement in the explosion at Dakshin Bamunia village. The agency’s investigation has implicated Ahidul Islam as a co-conspirator in the crime, involving bomb preparation and evidence tampering. Efforts are underway to identify additional suspects linked to the incident.
