The Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono have arrived in New Delhi for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The meeting, to be chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on May 14-15, will include discussions on global and regional issues of mutual interest. BRICS member and partner countries will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the event.
India, hosting the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting, will focus on the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.’ This theme aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on a people-centric and humanity-first approach, as highlighted at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025. The BRICS formation, initially BRIC, was established in 2006 and expanded to include South Africa in 2010, becoming BRICS. South Africa participated in the third BRICS Summit in 2011.
