A Nigerian national, Emeka Asedo, was apprehended in Silchar, Assam, with concerns raised over his legal status in India due to the lack of valid travel or identity documents. Local individuals were also taken into custody for allegedly providing illegal shelter to Asedo. Among those arrested were Tinku Hussain Barbhuiya, Pinku Hussain Barbhuiya, and Robina Begum Barbhuiya, who assisted in accommodating the foreign national. Additionally, a woman from Mizoram, Mal Danga, was detained in connection with the case.
Authorities are investigating the purpose of Asedo’s visit, his activities during the stay, and any potential connections to a broader network. The police emphasized that legal action will be taken against those found guilty of harboring the foreign national illegally. Efforts to identify and detain undocumented individuals under the Foreigners Act continue, with the government stressing the importance of maintaining demographic balance and internal security.
The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on uncovering possible links and motives. Officials highlighted the use of regular drives, verification processes, and intelligence inputs to detect illegal entrants, indicating more operations are expected as part of the state’s anti-infiltration campaign.
