Nine people lost their lives, and many others were injured in a fire that erupted at a four-storey building in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area early on Sunday morning. The blaze started on the second floor around 4 a.m., prompting the dispatch of 14 fire engines to the scene. Rescue efforts led to the successful evacuation of over 10 individuals.
Upon receiving the alert, police personnel, including the Vivek Vihar SHO and ACP, rushed to the location. By 6 a.m., the fire was brought under control, and the injured were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. DCP (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena confirmed that the fire was contained after a two-hour operation, with six to seven injured individuals taken to the hospital for urgent care.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with 10 to 15 individuals rescued during the firefighting efforts. Unfortunately, nine fatalities have been reported, while two individuals with minor injuries were transferred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment. The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations continue at the site.
