At least nine individuals lost their lives, and two others sustained severe injuries following a collision between a dumper truck and a car in Mumbai’s Kalyan area. The tragic incident occurred on the Rayta Bridge along the Kalyan-Murbad road around 11 a.m., as confirmed by authorities. The car, reportedly en route from Kalyan, collided head-on with a mixer truck, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
The deceased individuals’ bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, while the injured parties have been hospitalized for necessary medical care. Upon receiving the report, the Titwala Police Station promptly dispatched a team to the scene to commence rescue and relief efforts. Reports suggest that the car was carrying 12 passengers at the time of the accident, with eight passengers succumbing on the spot and one more losing their life during treatment at the hospital.
The vehicle was heading towards Murbad when the collision occurred near the Rayta Bridge close to Kalyan, according to police statements. Thane Superintendent of Police D.S. Swami, in a statement to the press, confirmed the casualties, stating that nine individuals have tragically passed away, while two others remain in critical condition and are currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the accident, with initial indications pointing to possible causes such as excessive speed or loss of vehicle control.
