The inaugural meeting of NITI Aayog’s ‘Education to Employment and Enterprise’ Standing Committee aimed to pinpoint actionable strategies for boosting employability, promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing industry-relevant skilling, and fostering growth in the services sector. The committee emphasized the need to harness India’s demographic dividend for economic growth by aligning actions among various stakeholders such as the government, industry, academia, and the skilling ecosystem.
With a vision to secure a 10% share of the global services market by 2047, the committee will concentrate on areas that can optimize growth, employment, and exports. It will also evaluate the influence of advanced technologies like AI on job landscapes and skill demands, proposing suitable interventions to address these changes.
During the session, NITI Aayog’s Programme Director for Services Division, Sonia Pant, shed light on the services sector’s potential in terms of economic value creation and job opportunities. NITI Aayog CEO Nidhi Chibber stressed the necessity of aligning education, skilling, and employment frameworks with the evolving economic landscape to leverage India’s demographic dividend effectively.
The discussions encompassed critical topics such as labor force engagement, youth employment, education-skills alignment, formal and informal economies, and workforce readiness for emerging job roles. Participants also explored issues like transitioning labor to non-farm sectors, integrating frontier technologies, and enhancing industry-specific skilling pathways to meet evolving demands.
The committee acknowledged the pivotal role played by the services sector in India’s economic progress, highlighting its increasing contributions to economic resilience, export competitiveness, job quality, and global value chains. Comprising representatives from relevant ministries, state governments, industry bodies, and experts, the committee is chaired by the CEO of NITI Aayog and includes stakeholders from various sectors and regions.
