Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Nitish Kumar has been assigned a new official residence in New Delhi after being elected to the Upper House of Parliament. His new home is a Type-8 bungalow located at 9 Sunehri Bagh, a prestigious address in Lutyens’ Delhi. This area is known for its high-security VIP zone and is home to prominent political figures like Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi, and Chirag Paswan.
Nitish Kumar’s previous residence was at 6 Kamraj Lane, but following his Rajya Sabha election, he has been upgraded to a larger and more prominent Type-8 bungalow. In Lutyens’ Delhi, government accommodations are categorized from Type-1 to Type-8, with Type-8 being the most prestigious. These bungalows are spacious, ranging from 8,000 to 8,500 square feet, and feature multiple bedrooms, expansive living areas, a study, garage space, and extensive lawns.
With the new residence, Nitish Kumar’s security has also been enhanced. He now enjoys Z+ category security provided by the CRPF nationwide, offering one of the highest levels of protection for public figures in India. The allocation of a Type-8 bungalow in such a prime location is typically reserved for individuals who have held or currently hold top constitutional and political positions. Notable leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Rahul Gandhi, and M. Venkaiah Naidu also reside in this category.
Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha Member on April 10 and subsequently resigned as Bihar Chief Minister on April 13, leading to the formation of a new government in Bihar under Samrat Choudhary.
