Mumbai, Aug 7 (IANS) Actress Apara Mehta, known for her role in the popular television show “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” celebrated India’s rich textile heritage on the occasion of National Handloom Day.

The actress extended her wishes to weavers and artisans while highlighting the importance of preserving the country’s traditional crafts. Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Apara said, “Today on National Handloom Day, I would like to extend my best wishes to all our extremely talented weavers and artisans. Our country has such a rich heritage of textiles and I have been very fortunate that thanks to my mother, I was introduced to our beautiful handlooms right from my birth.”

She further encouraged people to support Indian handlooms and local textiles, adding, “I would like to tell everyone to please embrace our handlooms and local textiles and continue our rich heritage of textiles. Once again, a very happy National Handloom Day.”

For the caption, the veteran television actress wrote, “Happy National Handloom Day to all our extremely talented artisans!#handloom #nationalhandloomday #indiantextiletradition (Attempted a voice over on a reel for the first time! Please excuse any mistakes!).”

Apara Mehta also shared a video showcasing her love for traditional Indian handlooms. The video featured the actress wearing different sarees on various occasions, highlighting the beauty, elegance and versatility of Indian textiles.

India observed the 12th National Handloom Day on August 7, 2026, celebrating the country’s rich weaving traditions and the contribution of its artisans. August 7 commemorates the historic Swadeshi Movement, which began on the same day in 1905 and encouraged citizens to support and use products made in India.

For the unversed, the first National Handloom Day celebration was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 with the aim of recognizing and supporting the country’s weaver communities.
