As Nitish Kumar prepares to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha polls, there is growing speculation that this move might signal the end of his nearly two-decade tenure as Bihar’s Chief Minister. JD(U) workers recently gathered outside Kumar’s official residence in Patna to voice their support for him amid reports of a possible transition.
The workers expressed their opposition to rumors suggesting Kumar’s potential resignation from the Chief Minister’s post to join the Rajya Sabha. What started as a gathering soon turned into a protest, with workers preventing party leader Krishna Murari Sharan from entering the Chief Minister’s residence. Many workers voiced their discontent at the prospect of Kumar leaving his current position, emphasizing that the public mandate in Bihar was secured in his name.
According to a JD(U) worker, the public had voted in every village in support of Nitish Kumar. The news of his possible move had dampened Holi celebrations, with calls for Nishant Kumar to be sent to the Rajya Sabha while Nitish Kumar continues the work for which he was elected. Another worker echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the people’s mandate should not be disregarded.
If Nitish Kumar transitions to the Upper House of Parliament, it would signify a significant change in Bihar’s political landscape, potentially leading to a Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the first time in years. The speculation surrounding Kumar’s resignation has left political observers puzzled, especially considering his recent re-election as Chief Minister and the potential entry of his son, Nishant Kumar, into politics.
Political analysts suggest that the potential leadership shift in Bihar may be part of a strategic move by the BJP and JD(U) to plan for future political scenarios. Nitish Kumar, a prominent figure in Bihar known as “Susashan Babu,” has been a key governance figure in the state at 75 years old. However, concerns about his health have been raised by the opposition, particularly after viral videos from his public appearances.
Amidst the speculation over Kumar’s replacement as Chief Minister, names like Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Union Minister Nityanand Rai, and Bihar Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal are being discussed as potential frontrunners in political circles in Bihar.
