North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal has the highest number of “under adjudication” cases as the Election Commission of India prepares to release the final voters’ list. These cases involve voters under scrutiny due to identity document discrepancies. The district has around 5.90 lakh such cases, the highest in the state.
Supplementary lists will be issued for these cases based on the progress of judicial scrutiny post the final voters’ list publication. South 24 Parganas follows with 5.20 lakh cases, ranking second in the state. West Midnapore and East Midnapore districts hold the third and fourth positions with one lakh and 80,000 cases respectively.
Kolkata’s electoral districts, Kolkata Dakshin and Kolkata Uttar, rank fifth and sixth with 78,000 and 60,000 “under adjudication” cases. Overall, West Bengal has over 60 lakh such cases. The Election Commission of India will provide soft copies of the final list to political parties for transparency and offers various online and offline options for voters to verify their names.
