North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui stated that her country aligns with Russia on strategic matters during an event honoring a late Russian ambassador. Choe’s comments were made at a ceremony unveiling a memorial plaque at the Russian Embassy for former Ambassador Alexander Matsegora, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70 last December after serving in North Korea for over a decade.
Choe emphasized the shared stance between North Korea and Russia on strategic issues, reflecting their strong allied relations. She highlighted the success in expanding bilateral ties and enhancing the well-being of both nations’ citizens through the defense of mutual interests. Choe reiterated North Korea’s commitment to strengthening relations with Russia based on a history of solidarity and trust.
Additionally, Choe mentioned North Korea’s intention to enhance collaboration with Russia based on existing agreements between the two countries’ leadership. The ceremony at the Russian Embassy was attended by Jo Yong-won, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, and Foreign Minister Choe, as reported by North Korea’s state media, the Korean Central News Agency.
Ambassador Matsegora, who served as Russia’s ambassador to North Korea for more than a decade, was appointed in December 2014 and tragically passed away at the age of 70 last December.
