North Korea criticized a recent joint statement by South Korea and the European Union condemning its military cooperation with Russia. The North Korean foreign ministry stated that it will continue to view South Korea as “a hostile state.” The joint statement, issued during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s summit talks with EU leaders, called for an end to North-Russia military activities and expressed concerns over North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
The North Korean foreign ministry denounced the joint statement as an infringement on its sovereignty and a hostile act. It accused South Korea of shedding its “peace” facade and labeled South Korea as the “first enemy state.” The ministry emphasized that regardless of South Korea’s actions, North Korea will persist in treating South Korea as a hostile entity.
The statement further highlighted the irreconcilable nature of relations between North Korea (DPRK) and South Korea (ROK). It pointed out that the South Korean leader’s actions have revealed the impossibility of peaceful coexistence between the two Koreas. The North Korean ministry criticized South Korea for aligning with what it termed as “ulterior motives” akin to Ukrainian forces.
