The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is prioritizing safety and infrastructure enhancements to ensure reliable train operations. Efforts include modernizing systems for safe and efficient train movement within the zone. Significant initiatives in signalling and safety were undertaken in March 2026, with installations and testing at various stations across divisions. Upgrades such as interlocking gates and commissioning of advanced systems aim to bolster operational safety and reliability.
Automatic Fire Detection and Alarm Systems have been installed, and older mechanical systems replaced with electric lifting barriers at level crossing gates to improve safety. Infrastructure improvements also encompass signalling cable testing, battery replacements, and joint and LED upgrades across all divisions. These upgrades are vital for safe train operations, enhancing reliability, and increasing overall railway capacity. NFR is dedicated to providing passengers with a safer, more efficient travel experience through continuous infrastructure strengthening.
The Northeast Frontier Railway, headquartered near Guwahati, operates in the Northeastern states, seven districts of West Bengal, and five districts of north Bihar.
