The Northeast Frontier Railway has inaugurated a new cultural ground named “Zubeen Garg Railway Bihutoli” at Maligaon to host Bihu and other cultural events. The Bihutoli features modern amenities like a permanent stage, dining hall, and community space. It will host the annual Rongali Bihu celebrations from April 14 to 17.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, and Palmee Borthakur, Zubeen Garg’s sister. The event marked a tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg and his contributions to Assamese culture. The initiative highlights the railway’s commitment to preserving regional heritage and honoring cultural icons.
The naming of the Bihutoli reflects the deep cultural significance of the Bihu festival in Assam. Zubeen Garg, a beloved Assamese artist, passed away in September last year, leaving a lasting impact on the cultural landscape. The event also recognized his family’s appreciation for the recognition bestowed upon him. The railway’s efforts underscore its dedication to promoting local traditions and commemorating influential figures.
