To accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger numbers over the New Year period, Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has announced the operation of a special reserved train between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. The special train service will run five trips in each direction from December 27, 2025, to January 1, 2026, aiming to ease travel during the peak holiday rush. This decision by the Jammu Division of Northern Railway is in response to the heightened travel demand expected due to New Year celebrations and the influx of tourists and pilgrims heading towards Jammu and Kashmir.
The special train, known as Special Reserved Train No. 04081, will run from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra between December 27 and December 31, 2025. Departing from New Delhi at 11:45 p.m., the train will reach Katra at 12 noon the following day, with scheduled stops at various stations along the route. In the return direction, Special Reserved Train No. 04082 will operate from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi from December 28, 2025, to January 1, 2026, providing a convenient travel option for passengers.
Uchit Singhal, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Northern Railway’s Jammu Division, highlighted that the special train has been introduced to cater to the increasing number of tourists and meet the travel needs of local residents during the holiday season. With 16 coaches, the special reserved train aims to facilitate smoother travel and connect passengers with their families and friends for New Year celebrations, while also helping manage crowd movement effectively.
