Norway has declined an invitation to join US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace,” as confirmed by the country’s foreign ministry. Trump had announced a $10 billion contribution to the initiative and mentioned Norway as a host for a board event. However, Ane Jorem, a spokesperson for Norway’s foreign ministry, clarified that Norway will not be a member of the Board of Peace, as reported by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).

Jorem emphasized Norway’s firm stance on not participating in the Board of Peace. Instead, Norway is planning to host a spring meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee, an international body traditionally led by Norway to coordinate aid for Palestinians. The country is engaging with relevant parties to discuss the Gaza peace plan during this event.

Notably, Norway, along with other European nations like France, Germany, and Britain, has chosen to stay out of the controversial board initiated by Trump on January 22 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Trump aims to position his Board of Peace as a significant international organization that could oversee the UN’s activities, expanding its focus beyond Gaza, its initial mandate.
