Former World No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic has opted out of the upcoming Adelaide International, the lead-up tournament to the Australian Open, citing his lack of physical readiness. Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, expressed his disappointment at not being able to participate in the event, emphasizing his fond memories of winning the title two years ago. He conveyed his focus on preparing for the Australian Open, an event he has triumphed in 10 times.
Djokovic, aged 38 and from Serbia, highlighted his anticipation for the Australian Open while addressing his fans through a social media statement. Additionally, Djokovic announced his complete withdrawal from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), an organization he co-founded with Canadian player Vasek Pospisil. The decision to disassociate from the PTPA was based on concerns regarding transparency, governance, and alignment with his personal values.
Having reflected on the situation, Djokovic emphasized his commitment to his tennis career, family, and contributing to the sport in a manner consistent with his principles. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities within the organization but stated that his involvement has now concluded, signaling a new chapter in his professional journey.
