Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has officially pulled out of the Madrid Open scheduled to start on April 23 due to an injury. Djokovic, in a post on social media, mentioned that he is not fully recovered and is taking time to heal properly. The Serbian star expressed his regret for not being able to participate this year.
The tournament organizers confirmed Djokovic’s absence, stating that the three-time Madrid Open champion would not be competing in this edition. Djokovic, who is 39 years old, has been inactive for the past month following his defeat in the fourth round of Indian Wells. His recent matches include finishing as the runner-up in the Australian Open and reaching the round of 16 in Indian Wells.
Having missed the Miami Open due to a right shoulder injury, Djokovic also skipped the Monte Carlo Masters. Despite his absence in Madrid, Djokovic remains a dominant figure in the tournament’s history, having claimed the title three times previously. With a remarkable record of 30 wins and only ten losses in the Madrid Open, Djokovic has established himself as a formidable force on the clay courts.
Djokovic’s next scheduled appearance is at the Italian Open, another clay court masters event starting on May 8. However, his participation in the upcoming tournament is subject to his fitness levels in the days leading up to the event.
