The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has decided to honor two influential figures in Indian shooting and sports administration by renaming the July editions of the India Open Competitions. The Rifle/Pistol events will now be called the Jaspal Rana Memorial India Open Competition, while the Shotgun events will be known as the Raja Randhir Singh Memorial India Open Competition.
Jaspal Rana, a renowned Indian shooter, is celebrated for his exceptional achievements in the sport. He holds multiple Asian Games and Commonwealth Games medals, including an impressive nine golds. Rana’s success as an athlete, coach, and mentor has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s prominence in global shooting.
Raja Randhir Singh, another esteemed figure in Indian shooting, made significant contributions both as a shooter and a sports administrator. He secured India’s first Asian Games gold in shooting and later excelled in sports governance, currently leading the Olympic Council of Asia. The NRAI’s decision to name the competitions after these legends aims to honor their legacies and inspire future generations in the shooting community.
Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, NRAI President, emphasized the profound impact of Jaspal Rana and Raja Randhir Singh on Indian shooting. By associating the competitions with these icons, the NRAI seeks to motivate young shooters to emulate the excellence and dedication exemplified by these two stalwarts. This tribute connects India’s shooting heritage with its promising future, setting high standards for success at international levels.
