The Odisha Cabinet has greenlit 12 significant proposals, notably the “Gyanodaya – Prosperity through Education” scheme, to provide free education from Kindergarten to Postgraduate level. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired the cabinet meeting where this decision was made at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. The new scheme ensures free education for all students in Odisha, emphasizing accessibility and affordability.
CM Majhi hailed the “Gyanodaya – Prosperity through Education” scheme as a groundbreaking move, guaranteeing free education for students across all levels. The initiative, set to commence in the 2026–27 academic year, will cover students in Classes IX to XII and those pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in state institutions. The waiver of admission and enrolment fees will benefit students in regular courses at government and government-aided educational institutions.
The scheme, with an estimated outlay of Rs 895.57 crore for the first year and Rs 5,467.55 crore over five years, aims to enhance enrollment and reduce financial barriers for economically disadvantaged families. It excludes self-financing courses, private unaided institutions, and professional programs. CM Majhi highlighted the scheme’s broader impact on education accessibility and its role in empowering families towards a knowledge-driven, prosperous Odisha.
