Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the crucial role of workers in advancing Odisha and the nation, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring fair wages and a safe working environment. Speaking at an event in Bhubaneswar on International Workers’ Day, he stressed the significance of workers’ contributions to society and called for collective efforts to uphold their rights and well-being.
Majhi commemorated the historical importance of May Day, emphasizing its representation of worker unity, struggles, and rights. He outlined various initiatives undertaken by the government to support workers, including registering over 5 lakh construction workers under the Construction Workers’ Welfare Board and providing substantial financial assistance exceeding Rs 541 crore.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the effective delivery of services to workers through the ‘Shramik Sathi’ mobile app, ensuring seamless access to necessary support. Additionally, he announced an increment of Rs 10 per day in variable dearness allowance for workers, enhancing daily wages for different skill categories.
Majhi reiterated the government’s focus on the safety and welfare of migrant workers, emphasizing the resolution of distress migration issues through industrial development within the state. He highlighted the successful return of Odia workers from other states to contribute to Odisha’s textile industry, showcasing positive outcomes of initiatives aimed at promoting local employment opportunities.
To address distress migration and promote year-round employment, the government is set to launch the ‘Dalkhai Yojana’, aiming to provide sustainable job prospects for workers. Notably, on the occasion, 6,000 construction workers received identity cards, and beneficiaries were granted Rs 150 crore in assistance, reflecting the government’s commitment to worker welfare.
