Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi introduced the “Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivaha Yojana” at the Maa Tara Tarini temple premises in Ganjam. The scheme, aimed at enhancing social security, witnessed 201 couples participating in a group marriage event. Under this initiative, brides aged 18-35 and grooms aged 21-35, who are permanent residents of Odisha, can benefit.
The state government offers Rs 60,000 in financial aid to eligible brides, with Rs 45,000 directly deposited into their bank accounts. The remaining Rs 15,000 is allocated for marriage-related expenses. The scheme targets economically disadvantaged families, particularly from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, to alleviate the financial burden of their daughters’ marriages.
CM Majhi highlighted that the scheme will alleviate financial pressures on economically weaker families, promote women’s dignity and security, facilitate widow remarriage, and combat the dowry system. The initiative, spanning the 2025–26 to 2029–30 financial years with a budget exceeding Rs 59 crore, aims to ensure holistic security and self-respect for women across all districts of Odisha.
