Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg has directed senior officials to ensure a flawless Rath Yatra this year. The Rath Yatra is scheduled for July 16, and CS Garg emphasized learning from past experiences and meticulous planning to avoid errors. Coordination among departments is crucial for a well-managed event.
During the preparatory meeting, CS Garg highlighted the various rituals and tasks involved in the Rath Yatra preparations. These include wood collection for chariots, chariot construction, and the chariot-pulling ceremony. The massive influx of devotees in Puri necessitates seamless coordination for a successful event.
With six months left for the Rath Yatra, the Chief Secretary provided instructions to ensure timely completion of all tasks. Discussions were held on logistics like wood collection, additional security personnel deployment, LED TVs, water supply, parking arrangements, and crowd control measures. Last year’s Rath Yatra witnessed mismanagement and a tragic stampede, prompting the government to take immediate action.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi apologized for the security lapses and initiated an investigation post the stampede incident. Officials responsible for the lapses were transferred or suspended, and compensation was announced for the families of the deceased pilgrims. The government is focused on ensuring a safe and well-organized Rath Yatra this year.
