Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has proposed a “two-coast strategy” to drive India’s industrial growth, emphasizing the crucial role of the east coast in the nation’s economic development. During his visit to Gujarat, CM Majhi highlighted the need for a balanced approach to coastal development, urging industry leaders to harness opportunities on both the eastern and western seaboards. He stressed the significance of the East Coast in shaping India’s future growth trajectory.
CM Majhi underscored the importance of accelerating development along the eastern seaboard, citing Odisha as a strategic gateway for the country’s industrial expansion. He emphasized the need to replicate the success seen on the West Coast on the East Coast, leveraging Odisha’s ecosystem, connectivity, and policy support for this transition. The Chief Minister also highlighted Odisha’s strategic location, offering access to key regions like Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific, and its growing role in India’s global trade network.
During the visit, CM Majhi and Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, along with state officials, engaged with industry stakeholders to showcase Odisha’s policy framework and infrastructure readiness. The delegation toured Mundra Port and its industrial facilities, including the Container Jetty and the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Jetty, demonstrating the state’s capabilities in cargo handling. The visit also included inspections of manufacturing units for copper, solar cells, and wind turbine components, highlighting Odisha’s integrated industrial development.
CM Majhi revealed that the Odisha government has approved numerous investment proposals totaling Rs 8.37 lakh crore, with Rs 2.86 lakh crore worth of projects already underway. He emphasized the swift progress of investment initiatives in the state, particularly in sectors such as logistics, chemicals, petrochemicals, and downstream manufacturing.
